Grounding | Healing with Mother Earth

The Earth and all of its inhabitants are a perfectly balanced organism. Since the dawn of time humans have had a close connection with Mother Earth, walking barefoot and sleeping in close proximity to the ground. Maybe they knew something our society is only just rediscovering?

There is a well of healing energy right beneath your feet. Humans have searched far and wide for such magical catalysts, but in fact, searching is not necessary to receive healing from this source—feeling is.

Below the Earth’s surface is a massive magnetic field, radiating healing energy powerful enough to positively impact our health. When we connect skin to Earth her magnetic field radiates healing energy, positively impacting our health. This phenomenon is called earthing, also known as grounding. Not only is the Earth thought to be a prescription for health, there are many scientific studies to back it.

When humans walk on the Earth barefoot or are in close contact with the Earth, they absorb negative ions into their bodies, most of the time through their feet. When the negative ions from the Earth enter the human body, they neutralize positively charged free radicals, creating a balanced environment in the body. The energy coming from the Earth is helping to maintain homeostasis. These findings are backed by the U.S. National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health.

To receive the benefits of grounding, ditch the shoes and take a walk outside, or sit in the grass and have a cup of tea. The way you choose to ground is up to you, there is no right or wrong way to do it. In fact, you were made to do this and innately know how.

The goal is to place your skin against the Earth for about 30 to 40 minutes a day, like our ancestors did. Make it a daily routine or ritual. Being in constant interaction, relationship and appreciation of the Earth will create great benefits for your life far beyond what you can imagine.

Furthermore, thermal imaging has revealed a reduction in inflammation in people who participated in grounding versus those who did not (NCBI, 2012). We are meant to work together with Mother Earth.

In todays world, death from chronic illness surpasses death from infectious disease. Could it be that humans are disconnected from the natural world now more than ever, thus missing vital components to proper health? Are we too caught up in the stress and hustle and bustle of everyday life? What would happen if as a species we took simple action to return to our roots?

The Earth’s magnetic field is a self-renewing resource that is unlimited in its healing capacity. Not only does the Earth help to heal you, but your energy helps to heal the Earth too. We are in a reciprocal relationship with one another. The time has come to remember to incorporate natural processes of the Earth into our daily routines. As a species, we have everything we need to live a happy, healthy life right here on this planet. The Earth is our greatest ally.
