How to Make an Herbal Infused Oil [Cold & Warm Method]

Herbal oils can be made from fresh or dried herbs. When using fresh herbs, let them sit out for a day or so to allow some of the water to evaporate before adding them to the oil.

Step 1:

Place freshly crushed or powdered herbs into glass jar with a tight-fitting lid. Pour oil over the herbs and stir until the herbs are completely saturated, cap tightly. Then, label the jar with the date and contents.

Step 2:

Put the jar in a sunny window for a minimum of four weeks (six weeks or longer is preferred) shaking often.

If you need the oil quicker, warm the oil in a low temperature yogurt maker (like a Vitaclay) adding water to the clay container outside the jar to the height of the oil (or close to it) and let warm for 72 hours, stirring often.

Step 3:

When the herbal oil is ready, pour it through a cheesecloth and allow the oil to seep into a bowl. Squeeze tightly to extract as much oil as possible. Pour it into a tight filing jar for storage. You can use this oil to make an herbal salve, lip balm, lotions & creams.
